Gymnastics Junior Coach Program

The New Brighton Gymnastics Junior Coach Program is for youth ages 14 or older who have competitive gymnastics experience (prefer either a high school varsity athlete or an optional gymnast level 6+) and are interested in learning how to coach gymnastics, build leadership skills, and gain early employment experience. Gymnasts must be approved by the Recreation coordinator and supervisor to participate. Through both online instructional training as well as hands-on coaching experience, participants will build self-esteem, responsibility, communication skills, professionalism, and more, all while learning more about the sport they love!

The program fee ($60) includes the following, which are all required for completion of the program:

  • FA/CPR/AED training ($89 value)
  • online trainings on the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Training and Safety Management certification
  • Attendance at recreation staff trainings to learn coaching basics, skills and drills, and volunteer expectations
  • Two sessions/seasons of volunteer coaching gymnastics lessons and training on how to teach gymnastics lessons (volunteers have the same expectations as staff during these sessions and should plan to attend all sessions of gymnastics)
  • Weekly check-ins with the program coordinator to receive feedback on teaching skills and more

Participants are eligible to apply for employment once they are 14, have completed all program requirements, have volunteer taught for at least 60 hours, and have been approved by the gymnastics coordinator.

Completing the Junior Coach program does NOT guarantee employment with New Brighton Parks and Recreation.

Scholarships are available.
